How much work experience is needed for a potential Medicine application?

In my opinion, there are two aspects which are key for work experience: what is gained from the work experience and the duration. Personal reflection is something that is highly regarded in medicine and should be put into practice from the very beginning. Regardless of the nature of the work experience, it is important to be able to highlight what you have been able to gain from it. This includes the positives, the negatives and how this has contributed in reinforcing Medicine as a future career. Even though work experience in a medical setting will be informative and useful, do not be disheartened if you have not had the opportunity to gain this- it is not the be all or end all. As I mentioned before, it is what you gain from the experience which is key. The duration is also significant. A longer duration highlights tenacity, commitment and dedication; all skills which are viewed highly upon in Medicine.
