How should I structure my essays?

When writing essays you should always think PEEL. One of the most frequent and very avoidable mistakes is not actually answering the question that has been asked; the PEEL structure will ensure you avoid this and answer the question effectively. POINT - What is your point? What is the answer to the question? This could be related to language, struture, form or context depending on the question. EVIDENCE - How can you back up your point? Is there a quotation that illuminates your point and proves its relevance? EXPLAIN - Develop your point - this is time to show how much you know and how your point and the evidence you have chosen relate to each other. LINK - This is often the most neglected aspect. Link your point back to the question, use the key words in the question to show how relevant your point is. You can also link to new point.
