Why might ethnic minority migrants concentrate in the inner-city center? [4 marks]

Ethnic minority migrants often concentrate in the city center upon first settling in a new city due to the presence of cheaper housing usually found in these areas; migrants are often found to have relatively lower incomes than the host populations and therefore often cannot afford more affluent areas of the city. As the concentration of ethnic minorities in the city center is established, more ethnic minority migrants will choose to settle in these areas, through the process of chain migration. This results in a large ethnic minority community and strong cultural ties and amenities will become established, further encouraging more ethnic minority migration into these areas.
