Describe the motion of a moving object with a given Displacement-Time graph. For each section on the graph, indicate the direction of motion and identify if the object is accelerating or not. What would the object's Velocity-Time graph look like?

Section 1: The object is moving away from its origin with a constant speed. There is no acceleration as demonstrated by the linear increase in displacement. Section 2: The object is stationary. Section 3: The object is moving towards its origin with a constant speed. There is no acceleration as demonstrated by the linear decrease in displacement. Section 4:The object is stationary. Section 5: The object is moving away from its origin with an increasing speed. The (roughly) quadratic increase in displacement indicates the object is moving with constant acceleration.

I would ask the student to draw the Velocity-Speed graph in the lesson space. It should have the following characteristics: Section 1: A horizontal line with positive velocity. Section 2: No line/Line at Zero Velocity (as object is stationary). Section 3: A horizontal line with negative velocity 4: No line/Line at Zero Velocity (as object is stationary). Section 5: A line showing a linear increase in velocity.
