Please explain air resistance.

Both air and water are made up of lots of tiny particles. When you run your hand through water, there is some resistance to motion caused by the interaction between your hand and the water particles. In a similar way, when something moves quickly in air it will feel some resistance to motion due to the interaction between itself and the air particles.
