Describe how a healthy kidney produces urine. (5 marks)

In this question you must first look at the wording. This is a describe question and therefore a description is required but not an explanation. It is worth 5 marks so aim to describe 5 or more reasons how a healthy kidney produces urine.

Through use of a diagram (I would draw a diagram of kidney nephron), you can see how the kidney is adapted to produce urine. The most important function of a kidney is to filter blood (1 mark), the blood is filtered by the kidney so that glucose is reabsorbed to be used for energy supply (1 mark). Some ions (1 mark) and some water (1 mark) are also reabsorbed back into the blood. Urea which is a toxic substance is removed by the kidneys and excreted in urine (1 mark).
