How can I write a good history essay?

With history essays it is important to have a clear structure, so introduction, main body and conclusion. It is always essential to plan an essay, to avoid repetition/confusion. The other aspect of it is that you have to know clearly what question you are answering - whether it is to evaluate, analyse or assess etc. this will allow you to know what direction to go in with your answer. A good introduction will introduce the topic you are writing about, as well as the main historians you will be disucssing. This is a key starting point from which the rest of your essay will flow. Remember to state your argument clearly here, and outline what the main points in the body of the essay will cover briefly. The main body of the essay is where you will develop your thoughts and opinions on a certain topic. It is important to remember structure within paragraphs, the PEE, Point, Evidence, Explanation - this will help you to clearly state how a certain arugment is relevant to your essay on the whole. The main body is where you will develop your argument fully. Each paragraph should have linking sentences so that they are not disjointed and the essay flows. A good history essay will include the main historians who studied certain topics. All of this leads to the conclusion, where you should look to conclude on your argument, without bringing in new facts/evidence. This paragraph should demonstrate your understanding of the topic clearly and concisely. Your introduction and conclusion should match in terms of the statement of your argument.
