How should I prepare for an Oxbridge interview?

The most important thing to remember is that preparation for an Oxbridge interview should not be overdone. The tutors are looking to challenge you for fresh responses and will realise if you are just recalling revised material. There are, however, a few things that you can do which will enable you to respond well during the interview.

Firstly, it is important to have broken down your own personal statement and are able to respond to questions on any of the texts you have mentioned or any of the statements that you have made. You should also be ready to deal with any material you receive before or during the interview. If you are given the material in advance, make sure that you use the time wisely. Carefully read what you are being asked to do before addressing the questions or text. If the material is given during the interview, do not feel rushed into quickly responding but instead give yourself time to think and properly formulate any ideas.

Finally, remember that these tutors are looking to push you so if it the questions are getting tougher do not panic; it is a good sign. Similarly, do not try to gauge how well you are doing during the interview as it is impossible to know and it is paramount that you are focused throughout. These answers may seem simple but effectively that is the hardest point to get across, the tutors want to test you and see what you can offer and all these things are key to allowing them to do that.
