mRNA is used in translation to make polypeptides. Describe the process of how mRNA (Messenger RNA) is produced in the Nucleus.

  1. Helicase unwinds the DNA double helix strucutre

  2. This is done by breaking the hydrogen bonds

  3. Only one strand is then used as a template

  4. RNA nucleotides bond/ attract to exposed bases

  5. This is according with complementary base pairing

  6. The RNA nucleotides are joined to the DNA strand by the enzyme RNA polymerase

Additional: This process results in an mRNA strand called pre-mRNA, which is later spliced to remove introns (non-coding sections of the DNA).
