Freud studied the process of dreamwork but it is very difficult to investigate. Explain why dreamwork is difficult to investigate.

Dreaming is an unconscious process so it is a difficult concept to test. Interpretations of the dreams are required which raises the issue of subjectivity. Also, people may lie about and/or not remember their dreams (because they woke up during non-REM for example) which renders the interpretations invalid. Because different researchers may come up with different interpretations for dreams these interpretations are said to be unreliable.
