Which of these options is the next in the sequence?

The answer is C.
There are two patterns as part of this abstract reasoning sequence. Each central square contains shape(s). The number of sides of these shapes increases by one each time. The shapes within the central square of C have 9 sides in total, the correct next number in the sequence. The second pattern is the position, colour and size of shapes outside the central square. Each example in the sequence contains a one sided, small black shape in the corner of the box. This shape rotates clockwise around the corners of the square. It is in the correct position in C.
