How do I answer the question 'Why do you want to study medicine?'

This is a common question asked during many medical school interviews. The common answers may include ' I want to help people' or 'I love learning about the human body' - which, despite sounding cliché, are completely acceptable primary answers. However, they must be developed further. What personal experiences have led you into making the decision to pursue a career in medicine? Include what you have seen during your work experience - this helps you to show the interviewer that you appreciate the personal qualities needed as well as difficulties that doctors face daily. It is useful to have a summary of all your key points at the end which not only makes your answer well-rounded but also so that you are clearly portraying your main points to interviewer.
