What is a subordinating conjuction?

This is just a word that moves the first verb of a sentence to the end! Some examples include "weil" (because), "obwohl" (although) und "wenn" (if/when).

Take the sentence "I like Jane because she is clever" as an example. It could be written as "Ich mag Jane. Sie ist intelligent", but when you want to put weil (because) in the sentence, it becomes "ich mag Jane, weil sie intelligent ist".

Note how in the first example, "ist" came straight after "sie", but in the second example, "ist" came at the end of the sentence. This is because the word "weil" has forced it to the end.

This works the same for all other subordinating conjunctions!
