What's the best way of answering the interview question of 'Why don't you want to do X instead of Medicine'?

This is a really common interview question that many people stumble on, X is normally something like nursing, paramedic studies or a straight science. Before you answer the question, there are two very important things to remember. Firstly, do NOT EVER degrade/belittle any other profession. Each healthcare professional in the NHS is important and just because you chose not to go for them it doesn't make them any less important. Secondly make sure you know the role of the doctor and other NHS workers, this will help shape your answer and also gives you insight into the profession and NHS. Once you get past these it is basically a rephrasing of 'Why do you want to do Medicine?', focus on the positives of studying medicine and why it is a unique course (there are many major differences between healthcare courses that you could talk about). Stay calm and be honest and you'll be fine!
