Can you explain what the subjunctive mood is?

The subjunctive is a grammatical method to determine the attitude of the subject. It most frequently is used to express feelings of hope, uncertainty, fear or desire towards a certain idea. It is also used after particular expressions such as 'il est nécessaire que' or 'pour que', which simply need to be learned by heart.
