Suggest reasons why levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere have changed over time.

CO2 levels in the atmosphere could have increased due to deforestation, as there are now less trees to re-absorb this gas. Emissions of CO2 may also have risen due to the increased burning of fossil fuels, such as coal and gas.
