How do you achieve a higher grade in an A-Level History essay?

The first point here is to focus on those qualities required to achieve say a C grade, this is the average and as such represents the qualities needed in a basic essay. In order to achieve a higher grade, the qualities necessary for a C grade must first be achieved. First you must display that you the candidate have a range of accurate factual knowledge which is relevant to the question, this does unfortunately mean memorization. You must also provide argument as to the strength and nature of your knowledge, this analysis of your information, demonstrates a reflective mind and will give the examiner good reason to give a higher grade. If you even wish to be graded a C, your essay must have a logical and regulated structure, usually into an introduction, argument specific paragraphs and a conclusion. Your argument must be balanced, it is not enough to simply run with your own conclusion, you must weigh the nature of other possible historical arguments. This skill would further lift the essay grade if the arguments of named historians were provided. These historians may agree or disagree with your own personal conclusions, but no matter the argument they will is argued correctly substantiate your own opinion. So, to conclude you must EVIDENCE WELL, STRUCTURE LOGICALLY, REFLECT, BALANCE, ARGUE WIDER and SUBSTANTIATE. If all this is done, then a higher A-Level History grade is in reach. This may seem like a lot to remember however much of this with practice will become second nature.
