What are the ecological impacts of a changing climate?

There is growing evidence of the ecological impacts of recent climate change in all biomes. Plant and animal species are responding to changes in air temperature, soil moisture and water salinity. Every species has particular optimum environmental conditions for survival, so as the climate alters they must adapt or migrate to survive. Therefore plants animals and insects are invading new areas and mixing with formally non overlapping species. The impacts on their environment cause knock on effects throughout the ecosystem, and sometimes cause extinctions as the structure of the ecosystem is altered.
