Describe the process of phagocytosis

When a phagocyte recognises the antigens on a pathogen, it engulfs the pathogen. The pathogen becomes contained in a phagocytic vacuole. A lysosome fuses with the phagocytic vacuole and digestive enzymes (lysozymes) from the lysosome break down the pathogen.
