How many pages should I write in my exam essay?

The amount of pages you should write in your exam can never be given a definite answer. This is becuase it depends on many factors, such as your hand writing and the speed at which you can write. Instead of stressing over how much you should write, try to think about how concise you make your argument so that it is obvious to the exmanier that you know what you're writing about. In order to do so and to avoid 'waffling', it's best to have an idea of the structure of your answer before you start writing your essay. Whether that means you scribble down ideas at the start, or you spend a good five minutes coming up with a clear plan, as long as you structure your essay well you're guaranteed to present a more succinct and well thought out answer. Demonstrating good knowledge of the AO's and a clear understanding of the question is more likely to gain you higher marks as apposed to filling out the entire exam paper with less credible work. The important thing to remember, as in all cases, is quality over quantity.
