When is the genitive case used in Arabic?

The genitive case المجرور in Arabic is marked by a kasra on the final letter of a word and is used in the following three instances:1) If the word follows حرف جر (preposition) e.g. في المكتبة (In the library) - fil maktabati2) If the word follows ظرف مكان \ ظرف زمان (locative adverb) e.g. تحت الطاولة (under the table) - tahtat-taawilati3) If the word is المضاف اليه (the second part of idafa) e.g. والد البنت (the girl’s father) - waalidul binti
