How do I answer the "why medicine?" question?

There are many different reasons to why people are drawn to medicine, and its important that you formulate an answer which is personal to you and reflects your intentions of wanting to study medicine. There are various routes that you can take when answering the question. You don't need to have a life-changing epiphany or observe brain surgery, just be real and be you. Strip your reason/s to the core and build up from there. Ask yourself, what was it that made you choose medicine? What impact did it have on you and those surrounding you? What did you realise? How did it make you feel? Did it prompt you to take further steps? What did you do next?
After establishing the reason, you can start to talk about your motivation for medicine or your qualities. This is a good way to introduce the kind of person that you are and how you will be suited to medicine. You can also talk about what you as a person will gain from medicine and what medicine will offer you that you may not find elsewhere. Its important to structure your answer by writing down basic points to set some foundation, and then exploring them further and in more detail later.
