Tell me your motivation and reasons for applying to *** (i.e. Trinity) College and why *** (i.e. Engineering)?

The interviewer has asked you a question which requires to be separated into two parts: 1. Why Trinity, and 2. Why Engineering, hence your answer should be structured to answer both. Regarding why Trinity, you need to do some research online in order to try and find reasons of why you have applied there. Is it because of its reputation as one of the best colleges in Cambridge? Is it about its location in the city? Is it because it will provide you with a unique opportunity to be taught my the best professors? Whatever the reason is, find something unique which won't be said by the majority of the interviewees, make it personal and interact with your interviewer. Highly recommended to ask questions regarding the college to show some interest. Why Engineering: This is a subject which requires a solid knowledge and interest in mathematical and physical concepts. As a result, you should try to mention when and how you have developed this skillset (i.e. In year 12 during a National mathematical olympiad, I received a silver medal). You should also be able to discuss about an engineering topic of your interest, such as how do aeroplanes fly, or how do buildings stand stably. This will let you step ahead from your competitors.
