An apple is suspended a string and a spring in parallel. When the string is cut, the apple falls, and the spring stretches and contracts repeatedly as the apple bounces. Describe the energy conversions that occur during this process.

When the string is cut:Gravitational potential energy is converted to kinetic energy.Kinetic energy is converted to elastic potential energy.Elastic potential energy is converted to kinetic energy (and heat energy)Kinetic energy is converted to gravitational energy.Repeat steps 1 to 4 until stationary.

A ball of mass 1kg is rolled down a hill of height 10m. At the bottom it collides with another ball of mass 5kg. What speed does the second ball move away with? You can assume the collision between the balls is elastic.

If Newton's third law is correct, why are walls not indestructible? In applying a force to a wall, if it breaks surely it is not giving an equal and opposite force.
