Should I only exhibit my academic excellence in my personal statement?

Universities are obviously interested in getting students with a great academic potential to improve their reputation. However, they are not only interested in recruiting thinking machines. A teacher will always tell a student that they would be better off getting interested in the topic of their studies than trying to be good in some subject in which they have no interest. So do universities.Students should exhibit their motivation and interest into the topic of the course they apply to. They should show that the subject is part of their everyday life. As a case in point, Oxford’s admission team has recognised that they would pick a student with a clear interest in the subject of the course over a student with limited interest but with better grades. Furthermore, universities are interested in extracurricular activities which show that they would be a great asset to their university, as they are not just an individual that would only help to push the grade average up.
