Why choose medicine as a career?

Medical schools are looking for a well thought out and honest answers to this question. Ideally your answer to this will reflect the core qualities that the faculty will be looking for in their applicants as well as a personal touch as to what medicine means to you. They are not necessarily looking for the somewhat contrived story about when you were 5 and a friend cut their finger and from that day on you've known you want to be a doctor. As true as that may be, they just want to see that you are an approachable and friendly person with their head screwed on. Points to hit upon:teamworking communication skills care / compassion education or research (if you are interested) A snipit from my answer to this question: I find it amazing how the role of a doctor in today’s society can be split into so many different branches: artist, healer, teacher, counselor and scientist, as well as being it is widely respected both for its academia and its practical skills. As a career, it puts individuals in the most privallaged positions of trust and gives them the ability and oppertunity to help those in need as well as the knowledge base to explore a vast number of different fields within one subject.
