What should I expect from an Oxbridge interview?

The approach may vary in different colleges but my own experience was a lot less intimidating than I thought it would be. I was given a poem to analyse before I went in and then the first part of the conversation consisted of going through my notes and basically just talking about what it was that I found interesting about this poem. They try to find out about your work ethic and attitude to new information by proposing radical new readings and seeing how you respond. The second half of my interview was more focused on me; what I had done outside the curriculum, why I loved English, what book was in my bag right now etc. They are looking for someone who cares about their subject and, crucially, is genuine.
