How would we analyse the opening paragraph of Jane Eyre?

When we start to analyse any piece of literature that we find hard it’s important to not panic. Sometimes it’s easiest to start with the simplist of assumptions and thoughts. So when we look at the opening paragraph of Jane Eyre, what do we know straight away? I get the sense that it is atmospheric and melancholic. From this we the need to ask why, what techniques are used to make us feel this way. In Jane Eyre, Bronte uses pathetic fallacy, where the weather is reflecting the mood of our protagonist/narrator. We can then make further assumptions and ideas about the rest of the novel from the opening lines
