How should I structure the coursework essay I have been set?

The easiest way to structure your coursework essay is through a rigid plan that you religiously stick to. Before you go to write the essay create an essay plan that runs through your argument by thematically. Then on a spare piece of paper write out the 'pattern' you are going to follow. When I'm writing my essays I always look at a few good example essays and try to deduce which structure they have chosen, as people can differ whilst still achieving the same effect.
However each pattern should always contain the Point in the first two sentences. This sets up the basis for your later analysis. Then immediately after your point you should provide back up or Evidence. This usually comes through referencing a historians views, quote, image or any other type of suitable source. Then after the evidence you should Contextualise, in other words you should explain to the reader the background story within which you are making your point. Finally comes the Analysis, which is the most important part. You must explain why your point is important, relevant and accurate. Treat each paragraph like a mini essay and conclude each one with a reference to the question. Try to use the wording in the question as it strengthens your point.
