How do I make my French sound more natural and less scripted/textbook?

One of the best ways to enhance language skills is by watching French films with French subtitles and English films with French subtitles. I used to listen to French dialogue and see if it matched the subtitles and I learnt lots of new idiomatic phrases by listening to English but looking at the corresponding French words. It also widens cultural knowlegde which may help for your oral exams.
