How can I make the most of the character count?

It's important to remember that university admissions see thousands of applications and it is impossible to mitigate the fact that many will sound similar. The character count means you should try to say more with less, cut out all of the extra fat such as unnecessary adjectives and sentences which do not have any real purpose. Every sentence should be short and punchy and prove an ability or characteristic. Admissions tutors are looking for what you have learnt from an experience, not necessarily what the experience was. Many medical school applicants try to use an emotive angle, however, this can be quite tiresome. It's more important to be sincere as that will be very evident. It's also imperative to paragraph your statement to ensure easy readability. The sections should be introduction, work experience, volunteer work, hobbies and conclusion. It is always a nice touch to foreshadow in the introduction and refer back to it in the conclusion.
