What process of chromosome replication is used to produce gametes?

Meiosis. Meiosis produces genetically different haploid daughter cells. Mitosis is the other method of chromosome replication but it produces diploid clone daughter cells. If sperm and eggs were produced this way we would all be clones of our siblings and have too many chromosomes.
