What is your understanding of Evidence Based Medicine, and can you give an example?

Evidence Based Medicine is the idea that decisions made in healthcare are provided with evidence from previous experiences. For example protocols in different situations are implemented based on research and academia which showed the current processes and procedures provides optimum care for patients. These are published in the NICE guidelines and change year after year due to audits providing evidence of better forms of treatments and procedures. To give an example, the Stupp protocol for Glioblastoma Multiform patients is used after noticing a combination of debulking in craniotomy and chemotherapy and radiotherapy, offers the best care for patients with high grade gliomas.New treatments and processes can only progress if there is sufficient evidence suggesting of its benefits.
