outline the characteristics of the globalisation of culture

Culture refers to the norms, values and customs that help make 'the way of life' of a particular society. Commentators have dubbed this culture to operate on a global level. One characteristic of the globalisation culture would be the eradication of folk culture in favour of cultural homogenisation; which, is a view that holds that due to the tyranny of westernised values, various cultures have become alike. This can be evidenced by the fact that American companies such as McDonald's have become largely ubiquitous and are found in over 100 countries in the world. This validates Ritzer's view that the American market has swarmed modern society. Finally, the globalisation of culture led to the development of synergies. This is the idea that the interaction of two or more organisations help produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects. Contextually, such synergies have been known to operate with news outlets in order to create greater public hysteria.
