Why do Christians use the symbol of the cross so much?

Many Christians view the cross as a very significant symbol in their faith. When Jesus was on the earth, he was killed by Roman soldiers after Jewish leaders demand he be punished for claiming that he could be equated with God, which was considered blasphemy (disrespecting God). After being tortured and mocked, Jesus was killed by crucifixion, a method of execution that involved nailing his hands and feet to a wooden cross until he died of a heart attack or suffocation.Christians believe that the punishment for any sin is death. However Jesus took people's punishment for them so that Christians do not die but go to heaven instead.Three days after dying, Jesus was resurrected (he came back to life). This showed God's power and proved to Jesus' friends and family that he was indeed God.Christians use the symbol of the cross to remind them of all these things.
