What is the fin-de-siecle?

Typically, the work of the Decadents and Aesthetes is a marker of this period in art history. It concerned itself with the perverse, the unclean, and the unnatural. These artists accepted beauty as the basis of life, becoming obsessed with artifice and symbolism. The exploration of the evil and immoral identifies their curiosity , whereby they don't accord any importance to didactic teachings.
