What should I include in a personal statement?

When writing your personal statement it can be tempting to include everything you have ever done and all the books you have read. However, due to the restricted length it is important to that you carefully consider what to include. The bulk of your personal statement should be focused on why you wish to study the subject you are applying for and what experiences you have had that led you to that decision. Whether that be work experience, books you've read or just general life experience. However, don't just list these experiences, explain a bit about what you did and crucially, what you learnt. Try and relate as many of your experiences back to the subject you are applying for. Your personal statement should be about you and why you want to, and think you would be good at, studying the subject you're applying for.
