Describe two problems faced by President Roosevelt from the opposition to the New Deal. [4 marks]

President Roosevelt first faced criticism of the New Deal from the Supreme Court, which ruled that some of the measures of the New Deal were unconstitutional. They argued that the New Deal gave the federal government too much power, undermining the powers of individual states.
Roosevelt also faced criticism from radical politicians, such as Senator Huey Long. He felt that the New Deal did not go far enough and that it did not do enough to help minorities, such as African Americans.
