Suggest two ways a coast can be protected by soft engineering (4)

Firstly, one way could be through beach nourishment. This is a process where sand and shingle is added to a beach from elsewhere to build up the beach in the area that needs protecting. Another method could be managed retreat, a form of soft engineering that allows low value land to naturally flood and thus retreat, so that other more valuable parts of land can be protected.
