Evaluate the reasons for the loss of Angevin power in France by 1214

There are 4 main reasons that i would discuss in regards to this question. I would consider the weaknesses and mistakes which were made by John, for example his mistreatment of key vassals, such as Hugh de Lusignan and John’s absence at the Battle of Bouvines. Following that, i would analyse the military strength of Philip. For example Philip’s strength in the Battle of Bouvines. This could be linked into the fact that john was absent and therefore Philip appeared even better as he was a monarch who was present. Thirdly, i would discuss their foundations laid by previous Capetian kings and how they had greatly increased the iconography of the Capetians. Lastly, i would address the relative financial strength of the Capetians, looking particularly at the exploitation of the Jews. However, at this stage i would acknowledge the fact that the historiography over this topic is divided and therefore the subject can be debated.
