Explain the formation of a wave cut platform.

A wave cut platform is formed when softer rock at sea level is eroded by the processes of hydraulic action and abrasion. These processes erode the rock to create a notch in the rock, which is eroded further as the waves come in, undercutting the harder rock above in the cliff. The cliffs are repeatedly undercut, and eventually become so unsupported that they collapse, leaving a flat base of rock at the base of the cliff, which is a wave cut platform.
