Explain what is meant by the term ‘global village’ and give a few examples to highlight this.

The term global village refers to the phenomenon of Globalisation and the idea that over recent years, the world has become a highly connected place where places , people , things and societies have become interconnected in a rapidly increasing way. It’s the idea that though the world is a large place, it is also like a small village because of the level of access we have within and between countries, nations and states. A great example to illustrate this, is the fact that you can walk into a McDonalds, an American multinational, in a place such as Egypt, something that was not possible , some 20 years ago. Another example of this is being able to go to a market , and buying for example , cashew nuts imported expressly from India, or being in the Caribbean and being able to make a phone call directly to Italy. These are the things that make the world seem smaller due to the high connectivity. This is largely due to the result of rapid global development since the industrial revolution, which brought about a huge amount of technological and agricultural growth and change.
