Explain the process of soil infiltration. (4)

Soil infiltration is the downwards vertical movement of water from the surface in to the soil. It is measured in mm/hour. The rate of movement depends on the soil porosity, the amount of water already present in the soil, the permeability of the surface, vegetation and human activity. When it reaches full capacity, the soil is saturated.
