Why don't cis/trans isomers have the same properties?

Some isomers have very similar properties, but in the case of cis/trans isomerism, the two isomers are non superimposable, so do not have the exact same shape. 

In terms of interacting with other molecules, this means that they will not fit into the same active sites in the same way so will interact with different molecules to produce different effects. ,
