What are the different stages of Mitosis?

This is the initial stage of mitosis where the DNA is replicated and organelles replicated in preparation for the cell dividing into two cells. This stage is the entireity of gap 1, synthesis and gap 2 within the cell cycle.

Prophase - Packing

This is the first stage of the cell cycle included within mitosis. Here the DNA becomes visible as it is packed into the chromasomes. Here the nucleur envelope breaksdown to allow for the movement of the centrioles to the polar ends of the cell ready for the later stages of mitosis.

Metaphase - Middle

Here the chromosomes line up along the cells equator (middle of the cell) by spindle fibres coming from the centrioles and attached to the centromeres of the chromosomes, that are first put into place in prophase.

Anaphase - Apart

At this stage the spindle fibres that are attached to the centromere of the chromosomes, contract and pull the sister chromids apart and seperate to the two poles of the cell.

Telophase - Two Cells

In telophase the nucleur envelope reforms giving two new nuclei and the chromosomes become undetectable through the microscope as they enter prepare for interphase again.

This is the final stage of mitosis where the two cells are formed and the cell membranes detach to form two new cells.
