If 6 eggs fit into each box, how many complete boxes can you make from 106 eggs?

To begin, we need to do the division 106/6. We know that 6 does not go into 1, so we can carry the one and see how many 6s go into 10.We can see that 6 goes into 10 once, with a remainder of 4, so we can carry the 4 and see how many 6s go into 46. If we need to, at this point we can write out the six times table. 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48...48 is greater than 46, so 42 is the greatest multiple of 6 we can use here. Therefore, 6 goes into 46 7 times, with a remainder of 4. Therefore, 6 divides into 106 17 times with a remainder of 4, so we can make 17 complete egg boxes from 106 eggs.
