How important is it to include examples of outside reading in your personal statement?

Although showing interest in your subject via the likes of citing reading material is crucial in your personal statemement as it shows an advanced academic understanding. it is also vital you sell yourself as an individual. Be this in showing off you're outside interests such as sport, drama, art or awards such as Duke of Edinburgh or school achievments such as prefect or form captain postitions. Thus you must ensure balance between academic and extra curricular in your personal statement, and also ensure if you do chose to include reading material that you have studied what you say you have in case you are called to interview for a particular university.
