How do I ensure my essay fulfills the requirement of sustained judgement throughout my answer?

Ensuring judgement is sustained through your answer is a key skill. Essentially there are three main parts at which judgement can be inserted into an essay response.

Firstly, students must state their judgement clearly and concisely in their introduction. Ideally in one sentence this should set out your main argument.

Secondly, judgement should be inserted at the end of every paragraph. This ensures that judgement is included throughout the answer and that the answer remains focussed on the question.

Thirdly, judgement should be placed in the conclusion. No new information should be introduced in the conclusion, instead the argument should be drawn to a close with the main factors listed for and against and an overall judgement, based on the weight of argument, should be achieved. This judgement should be the same as in the introduction.
