How do you memorise characters?

Chinese is a hard language. One of the most challenging thing is to memorise characters in order to read and write properly. One of the tips is to fully understand the character in each section, learning the different part of the characters makes easier to remind the real meaning. Writing the same character for thousand times without understanding it is useless.
