What was the Black Power movement?

The Black Power movement was largely associated with a man named Stokely Carmichael in the 1960s Civil Rights period. The phrase was confusing. Some saw it as a cry against white cruelty against blacks, and whites dominating politics. Some African Americans wanted to use Black Power as a way to elevate the status of African Americans in society. Many supporters of the beliefs believed that integration with whites shouldn't happen, and they wanted a purely black society, and reject racial integration. The NAACP condemned Black Power as it threatened the peace.
